SQL CODE MONKEY: I got my first true taste of the T-SQL language when MS SQL 7 was released in 1998. From that day forward I knew I wanted to focus on becoming one of the best in the SQL World. Before I got the SQL Bug, I spent my time writing Classic ASP, Windows Forms, .NET and on occasion the lost art of Cold Fusion.
I am currently the Sr. Manager, Data Management for a software company in The Woodlands Texas. I spend my free time speaking at SQL Events, trying to figure out just how far I can push the limits of a Raspberry PI, Gaming and running my own Music Production company. I specialize in encryption, AI, and autonomous cycles using tensor flow.
As every good computer programmer nerd, I can't resist playing games. But when it comes to games, there are two types of people, those who stay true to thier profession and play on a PC, and those who don't. I am one of those who believe that a game that isn't played on the PC, well, it isn't gaming.
I have a lot of different favorite games. Fallout is one of my top games I enjoy. Of course, there were a lot of people who jumped on the Fallout 4 bandwagon, but I still have the original 3.5" floppies that Fallout 1 came out on. Just FYI, it was just called Fallout at the time, there wasn't a number behind it. Also, any game that has DnD overtones to it, I will play. My all time favorite game would be the original Bard's Tale games. I had the pleasure of meeting Burger Becky last year while in Seatlle, and I hope I will get a chance again this year to pick her brain for a few hours again.
I saw my first concert in late 1976. My two brothers took me to the Summit in Houston to see KISS. From that day forward, I always wanted to be the front man for a big time band. As the years went by, that dream faded. But now, after many long years, I do pick up the guitar and lay down some awesome tunes for the fun of it.
My daughter is the one who has the musical talent in the family. She has published her first album, available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon Prime Music and The Google Play Store. As a father, she makes me so proud. At times I can be overbearing on her and her pursuit of music, however, no matter what, she will always be daddy's little princess and she will always make me proud.
I used to say is that all I read is Fantasy novels, and up until last year, that was true. However, I came across some real-life books, not really a biography, but kind of, and since then, I focus most of my reading there. The book that changed my whole outlook on reading is a book called, Under the Same Sky; The Joseph Kim Story. I won't go into a lot of detail about the book, but if you would like a great read and something that makes you think, you should read it.
Fantasy novels will always be my favorite. The top author, in my opinion, would be Raymond Feist. His novels covering the world of Midkemia, and the Rift Wars, is a must read of any true Sci-Fi/Fantasy fan. The next on my list would be Brandon Sanderson and his series, Mistborn. Here is a fun fact about Brandon Sanderson, if you are ever traveling and happen across a book store in a major airport, go look for one of his books. There are a lot of times he will go in and just randomly sign the books then place them back on the shelves.
When I do find that I have spare time, I love to travel.
Over the years we have had some great adventures in our traveling. Niagara Falls Canada is beautiful during the winter months. Last Summer I swam in the South China sea, and spent hours walking the Dragon's Back in Hong Kong. I have stood in a 1200 year old temple in Narita Japan, and slept under the stars with Kangaroos and Emu in the Australian Outback. I have swam with the barracudas in the Cayman Islands and played raggae on the beach in Kingston. Unfortunately with work and school our trips are only once a year now.
